After establishing a solid Association, the Board of Directors decided a Museum would reinforce the commitment of our mission The Museum would be established at Ramey where it belonged. All efforts were focused on this vision becoming a reality.

The main objective of the Museum is to develop the facilities into a historical repository of documents, photographs and artifacts related to Borinquen Field/Ramey Air Force Base as it existed during its years of operations of 1939-1973.

On 01 March 2007, the vision became a reality … the Association opened our “first” Borinquen Field/Ramey AFB Museum, located on Hangar Road inside a second floor room of Hangar 3. The original Museum was small but became the foundation of things to come.

This humble Museum gave members the opportunity to donate their memories and donate they did. Precious items held for years in closets, basements and attics are now part of the Museum exhibits and repository. Soon, the Museum ran out of space, so we began the process of finding a bigger and more assessable location.

On 10 March 2011, we moved to a facility located on Hangar Road inside Hangar 572, the second Metal Nose Dock Hangar from the beginning of the runway. The location was larger and is set at ground level, making the Museum easily accessible and giving us great exposure. It also provided us with an area around the Museum grounds to establish a small but valuable static aircraft display.

As our Museum and aircraft collection grows we pursue our quest for a bigger facility with a larger area for aircraft displays. With your support and all of the “Spirit of Ramey,” this endeavor will no doubt be achieved.

20 September 2017, Hurricane Maria destroyed our facility on Hangar Road, and we have been in search of a new home for over two years. Most of the artifacts were saved, retrieved and have been in storage for over two years.

November 2019 finds us being gifted with a location for a new museum home. We plan to open by Christmas 2019, at least in a limited capacity.

Watch for notices on this page and our Face Book page – Ramey Air Force Base Historical Association.
